Description: In 2020 the city of Portland Oregon voters approved a $1.2 Billion Bond for Portland Public Schools. As part of that project team, I assisted with Communications, Change and Project Management for the Bond 2020 Technology Improvement Projects which included deploying Chromebooks to each of the 40k students and 4k staff, deploying new teaching stations and classroom tech out to all 2k classrooms.
The Challenge: We had 91 sites included in scope and each school wanted new technology as soon as possible. The schools were on average 86 years old so they offered unique challenges for retrofitting. In addition to overseeing tracking of financials, a large data set for asset management, and logistics throughout the project.
The Results: I divided the sites into 18 school groups which included up to six schools per group, so the project team could focus on those specific sites before moving to the next. As part of my initial work on the project I set up an equity framework utilizing 2020 data for schools that were Title 1, CSI, TSI rated schools, schools with over 50% diverse and underserved community members, and schools with the largest student participation numbers, and the oldest buildings were prioritized in the first school groups. We successfully deployed the 40k computers to students and teachers within 4 months and deployed new teaching station equipment to all 2k classrooms within 3 years.
Description: In 2020 there was the highest dog adoption rate of all time and the largest participation in outdoor recreation. Unfortunately there was also the highest level of emergency evacuations from the outdoors. Once COVID social distancing had ended there were the highest number of people returning their dogs to animal shelters.
The Challenge: During COVID new dog owners weren't able to get into dog training programs due to social distancing. After years of leading outdoor adventures, I found a lot of people didn't know about the outdoor opportunities with their dogs nor how to get started.
The Results: Wouldn't it be great if your dog came with a training guide that you could view anytime? Most people's instant response is, yes! Therefore, I created Adventure Woof Pack which was the first of it's kind virtual adventure dog training subscription service in an Learning Management System. It included 12 months of adventures, dog training in different languages, and it had downloadable guides, videos, and a discussion board to help answer subscribers questions and to create a digital community. During that time I was also able to mentor 38 first generation college students that were women or non binary. We had over 22k views of our marketing efforts and digital monthly newsletters per month and 5 star rating on Google Business for 3 years. It was a Certified Women Run Business and also the B-Corp Assessment noted it was 88.5 rated.
Description: In 2014 I began working for the not-for-profit Promotional Products Association International by overseeing the strategy and logistics for year round programming and events.
The Challenge: I quickly found I needed to start by fixing the tech glitches on the original online education site, beta testing a new site, building relationships with the platform provider and speakers. By 2016 I designed a new mobile and user friendly site with single sign on that was well received by members. In addition the certification program that was using a proctoring service for the exams had seen a massive decline in users.
The Results: By 2019 participation on the online education platform had increased by 495% since I had started in 2014, this was due to marketing efforts and the new user experience. By 2020 I had produced over 800 virtual education sessions, podcasts, virtual conferences, and integrated live conference registration and the industry's certification program on the online education platform. In 2020 we received a 416% increase in participation for the new certification program I had designed. In fact it was the highest since the certification program began in the 1980s.
The Description: In 2016 we noted in a knowledge gap analysis that we didn't have any programming for the youngest professionals. My role was strategy and execution of the initiatives.
The Challenge: came from the fact that there are so many generations in the workforce yet there were not opportunities for the youngest generations to get a foothold in the industry.
The Results: I co-founded the young professionals conference called the SPARK program in 2017 to help create opportunities. It started with 60 participants and by 2020 it grew into a year round program with 500 participants focused on education, networking and community service. Beyond creating generational opportunities, these programs helped create a foundation of conversation, knowledge, and opportunity. In 2019 we started to produce virtual sessions to create a foundation of knowledge for the industry. By 2020 we started the first DEI virtual forum to create a foundation of conversation and ideas to help tackle social injustice in the industry and the world as a whole. We followed up the forum with a community discussion board.
